1.0 Wellness Credit is Required for Graduation

(Health plus Fitness)

LIFETIME FITNESS, 9th through 12th Grades 

1 semester, 0.5 credit
 

This class educates and trains students in the area of strength and conditioning.  Activities including strength training, agility, and speed development will prepare them for their upcoming season and maintain their strength for peak performance during their in-season sport.  Students also learn about basic anatomy and nutrition to set healthy, lifelong fitness goals.

 

STRENGTH TRAINING (Football Players only), 9th through 12th Grades 

1 semester, 0.5 credit         
 

This class educates and trains athletes in the area of strength and conditioning.  Activities including strength training, agility, and speed development will prepare them for their upcoming season and maintain their strength for peak performance during their in-season sport.  Students also learn about basic anatomy and nutrition.  This course may substitute for the Lifetime Fitness graduation requirement.  PLAYERS WHO DO NOT PARTICIPATE IN SUMMER TRAINING WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO TAKE THIS COURSE UNLESS ACCEPTED INTO DCA IN AUGUST.

HEALTH, 10th, 11th, or 12th Grade

1 semester, 0.5 credit
 

This class relates to the problems and difficulties that youth will encounter in their lives today and in adulthood.  Topics such as stress management, nutrition, dieting/weight control, drugs and alcohol, first aid/CPR, and human sexuality are included.  This class will be taught in conjunction with Fitness or Strength Training to fulfill the state requirement for 1 credit of Lifetime Wellness.
