STRENGTH TRAINING, 9th through 12th Grades
This class will educate and train athletes in the area of strength and conditioning. Activities including strength training, agility, and speed development will prepare them for their upcoming season and maintain their strength for peak performance during their in-season sport. Students will also learn about basic anatomy and nutrition. This course may replace Fitness. All athletes are required to take Strength Training unless there is a scheduling conflict due to an academic offering.
Prerequisite: Must either be a member of an organized athletic team, or obtain permission from the Athletic Director. STUDENTS WHO DO NOT PARTICIPATE IN SUMMER WORK-OUTS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO TAKE STRENGTH TRAINING UNLESS ACCEPTED INTO DCA IN AUGUST.
HEALTH, 10th Grade
This class relates to the problems and difficulties that youth will encounter in their lives today and in adulthood. Topics such as stress management, nutrition, dieting/weight control, drugs and alcohol, first aid/CPR, and human sexuality are included. This class will be taught in conjunction with Fitness or Strength Training to fulfill the state requirement for 1 credit of Lifetime Wellness.
